Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim received a visit from Malaysian-born international artist, artist Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh, at his office in Putrajaya.
During the meeting, he had the opportunity to exchange views on cultural aspects and hear the stories of the famous Hong Kong artist's ups and downs in building his career.
"Today we received a visit from cultural figure and artist Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh who recently won the Best Actress award at the 95th Academy Awards (Oscars 2023).
She's indeed the pride of Malaysia.
A number of larger-than-life billboards were also erected around Malaysia to honour Michelle.
One billboard hailed Michelle as “the pride of Malaysia”, addressing her by her full title, Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh. She was awarded the Tan Sri title in 2013.
Yeoh became the first actress of Asian descent to win the prestigious Best Actress Oscar in the Academy's history.
Her win was a source of national pride in Malaysia, with many Malaysians celebrating her achievement.
She dedicated the award to her family and extended family in Hong Kong, where she started her career.
During her acceptance speech, she shared an inspiring message: "Ladies, don't let anybody ever tell you that you are past your prime".
